We don't make a habit of
featuring other magazine's writers very often. It can be seen
as bad form to promote someone else as being a good writer,
especially when they write for the opposition.
We also don't go for "send this to as
many people as you can" e-mails because they're rather
crass and usually pointless.
But this week we've had two mails that deserve
further mention, and this, the first, boosts another writer
as well.
Gus Scott,
as many of you will already know, was killed in practice for
the Superbike TT this year when he collided with a marshal
who was going to the aid of a broken down rider. The marshal
also died in the incident.
Gus was a thoroughly nice guy, a brilliant
rider and a talented journalist with whom, sadly, we never
had the opportunity to work but who was always above magazine
rivalry when we met up. His was a sad loss to the racing and
writing communities on which he made such an impact.
Many people who knew Gus better than we did
wrote better obituaries, which is why we've said nothing publically
until now. Because now there's something we need to tell you.
Gus left behind a 10 year old daughter, Yasmin.
And though we can't replace her Dad, we can make life easier
in the future.
If you pay a visit to www.gusscott.com
you'll find a site which contains a whole load of fabulous
bike pictures. Some of Gus, some of other biking greats. All
the photographers have donated their work for free and you
can buy these pictures at a spectacularly reasonable price.
The site was put together by a bunch of Gus'
colleagues and friends and is managed by his parents. All
the money raised goes straight into a trust fund being for
Yasmin. This is what they say:
"If you do want to buy some of the awesome
pictures on the site - donated free of charge by some of the
very best photographers in the World - you can be safe in
the knowledge that every penny made will benefit Yasmin in
years to come.
The gatekeepers of the fund account are Gus's Mum and Dad,
Brian and Valerie. All we did was call a load of photographers
and set up the site - the next part of the transaction is
directly between you and Gus's family.
So go and have a shufty through the pics that are there already.
As time goes by the choice and variety will expand but we
urge you to click the "buy print" button when you've
found the picture you like! "
So go have a look. There are no popups or other nasties and
some of the photos are truly spectacular.
In fact, come back here and post a message in the forum
saying which one your prefer. At the end of October we'll
put all the names in a virtual hat and buy one random winner
a 10x8 glossy of their favourite shot. Now we can't say fairer
than that, can we?
Once again, it's www.gusscott.com
