Unfortunately this is just a concept bike for the show circuit, but it signifies that Guzzi are getting serious about getting sporty. However, since this is not a model but a fully working and running bike, it would appear that unless it gets a bad reaction from the general public then Guzzi says that they will put the bike into production. All I can say is roll on Guzzi, this bike is absolutely stunning and it needs to be made now. I for one would certainly want to own one.

The MGS/01 is based on the Furia, an existing model in their range, but has been heavily restyled and redesigned by Guzzi specialists Ghezi and Brian. The MGS/01 sports the traditional Guzzi transverse engine but inthis model we see a new 992cc motor (still an air-cooled 90 degree v-twin), with a claimed power output of 102 bhp at 8400 rpm and 65 ftlbs of torque at 7800 rpm. Gearbox is six speed.. Apparently, Guzzi are not happy with that power and would do some additional engine work to up it if they decide to go ahead with production. The prototype is fitted with an new underseat exhaust a-la Ducati, a sharp nose fairing, revised frame and an enormous box-section swingarm.

Like all Guzzis it's still a shaft drive, with the drive hidden inside that aluminum swingarm. Suspension is provided by Ohlins, with USD jobbies up front and a mono shock at the back - both fully adjustable. Brakes are Brembo Gold Series, with a pair of 320 mm discs up front clamped by four-piston calipers.

Weighing in at approx 192kg it’s not a lightweight but should handle well considering the class suspension set-up. Other noticeable fittings include gold magnesium OZ Racing five-spoke wheels and Brembo Gold series brakes.Let’s hope that Moto Guzzi does put this bike into production, it will be an absolute stunner.

**During a converstion with the marketing director of Moto Guzzi it now seems that this bike will be put into production some time in the spring of 2003. MotorbikesToday have been invited to ride this bike and visit the factory at Mandello Di Lario in Italy in March!
