Fazer
owners are an interesting
lot. There's possibly the biggest cross section of the community
you'll find riding them, from sportsbike refugees to cruiser
types to long distance tourers to "it's just transport"
commuters. But on our travels we've found that they tend to
be among the most sociable as well, whether it's having a
chat at the lights or meeting for socials.
German bikers
are also pretty sociable. In fact bikers in Europe generally
are far more up for a natter and a beer with complete strangers
- I guess they don't have the British reserve for which we
are so famous.
So if you combine the two you're likely
to have quite a party. And that's what has happened for the
last few years at the Nürburgring, and what's about to
happen again. The third international Fazer meet takes place
at the Nürburgring circuit from July 27th to 30th 2006.
As far as I can gather it consists of a large number of (mainly)
Fazer riders from owners clubs across Europe getting together,
having barbecues and drinks, riding around the countryside
and sampling the delights of the Nordschleife. But rather
than my explaining, here's the gen straight from the man himself
- Detlev, the event organiser.
"We're trying to join
Yamaha Fazer Owners from all over Europe, and increasing
numbers of UK Fazer owners showing up makes the difference
because most bike events are more or less locally or nationally
orientated. For me it's important to let the people know:
YES, we are motorbike fans, wherever we're from and we would
like you to feel at home with us in Germany.
Choosing
the Nürburgring for our event as a famous circuit gives
people a chance to try their skills on the Nordschleife or
so called "green hell" if they're up to it. It's
not a must. We're offering nice guided tours through the Eiffel
area surrounding the place in small groups "to keep the
speed high". Believe me, it's as fun as the circuit itself...
Most of the time we'll just hanging
out, talking bikes and stuff, having a beer (Bitburger), listening
to music and so on. Of course the traditional barbecue will
be there, close to the beer-barrels, and camping possibilities
are available on the hotel area in the valley.
Something like Karaoke is planned
this time. Don't ask me who will be singing what, but I believe
those guys from GB will be able to make us listen to some
famous creations...after some pints.
There will be a Tombola with prices
from known sponsors like Yamaha-Germany, LSL-biketech, Wilbers
suspension, a producer of exhausts, Bridgestone NL, and others.
As one of the interesting technical
parts of the event we will have German technician, Emil Schwarz,
who is famous here for his optimisations of swingarms and
steering components. He will show and present his professional
work, answering all the questions about setup of motorbikes
for racing circuits.
Also Mr. Czech(producer of HKS chain lubricants) will present
his 50years of experience in motorsports.
I
know this is not a lot of program but it's the thought of
international meeting that keeps the thing interesting.
No tits and wet T-shirt shows etc. but "being there",
having fun, and hopefully nice weather!
This is no commercial event. It's simply organized by friends
for friends."
That looks like a pretty good reason for getting
together. I may even see if I can get a weekend pass
and pop over myself.
You can get more details their website here
or from your local Fazer owners club. It's not mandatory to
have a Fazer, by the way, just to have a sense of humour and
the right attitude to mixing with strangers. There's not a
lot else on that weekend, so why not give it a go?
