i have a drz400s 2002 runnig like a bag of nails keeps back fireing when you come of the power ok through the gears and at top end when you roll of the power.did have a fmf power core end can with standard header pipe but thats had its day so got standard on which some one as taken the baffles out any ideas in what order to try things out to sort out the proplem

It sounds to me like the bike is running way too lean, probably because of the unbaffled pipe.

Either fit a proper one or change the jetting to make it richer. Not something you can just do by guesswork really, it needs a fair degree of experience and some specialist kit to do it right.

I'd go for the standard can or get another FMF or similar...

and if you dont know how to set a carb up, you can take it to a bike shop and have them sort it out for you, will probably run you 30-50 quid. Just make sure you know what you need doing and tell them exactly what you want them to do.
